Ted Ernst Pottery
My functional stoneware and porcelain pieces are influenced by Japanese folk tradition pottery and Southwestern Native American forms. The pottery is wheel-thrown and fired in wood-fired kilns for up to five days. The ash, flame and heat from the wood-firing process glazes the surface of the pots creating unique patterns with warm colors. The pots are like boulders in a stream of fire so each side of the piece is different. I also fire work in gas and electric kilns when those processes are more suitable for a particular type of work.
